In her later life, Meera was venerated as Meera Bai or Sant Meera Bai. She became a pioneer in the Bhakti Movement and her poems and bhajans have been famous since the 16th century.
Meera’s poems are full of love & devotion to the Lord. Today, Meera Bai is remembered as one of the most famous Hindu Mystic Poets and an ardent devotee of Sri Krishna.
This is the song and trailer from the Meera serial. Whenever I used to listen to this song, I cried all the time, and with all my soul and heart, and mind, I cried out to the Lord to make me experience the truth of my existence…
to give me his vision.
Today, when I played this song again to pen down this blog, I cried a lot. As I write this blog, I realized how far I have come in all these years.
Meera Bai Bhajans
The serial Meera and the bhajans of Meera Bai within this serial actually helped me develop an intense desire for the realization of the Lord. Whenever I watched it, tears rolled down my eyes.
This serial sparked the love of the Lord within me like never before. It was after this serial that I decided that I am going to realize God and become one with God, no matter whatever sacrifice is required for that. It gave me a determination that was unmatched.
Even while I was performing my work, I stopped giving attention to most things. It doesn’t mean that I did not perform my work. I kept performing my work. But I did everything that I could, to keep my attention (dhyana) on the Lord.
Below is one of the most amazing bhajans of Meera Bai. You can find more songs in the playlist ‘Spiritual Songs of Meera Bai‘ here.

Meera Bai’s Love for Krishna
How Did Meera Fall in Love with Krishna?
Since her childhood, Meera’s soul had a pull toward Lord Krishna. She was so much pulled by his love that she considered Krishna as her husband.
It so happened that once Meera’s Guru, Saint Ravidas came to her palace and showed her the idol of Lord Krishna. Meera really wanted to have that idol. But Saint Ravidas refused to give that idol to Meera because he had been worshipping Sri Krishna through that idol.
Saint Ravidas left along with his disciples. The disciples started singing devotional songs as they walked.
Meera, who was 9 years old at that time, followed Saint Ravidas into the desert just to have a glimpse of the idol of Sri Krishna. Saint Ravidas did not know that child Meera was following him all alone, away from her palace.
The King and the Queen (Meera’s parents) started searching for Meera as she had left the palace without their knowledge. When they found her, Meera came to her awareness and realized that she was pulled towards the idol of Sri Krishna so much that she did not know how long she had been walking in the desert.
Meera’s feet were badly bruised in the desert. But Meera expressed to her parents that she could not feel any pain in her feet even when she had traveled barefoot. She further explained to her parents that she did not even realize that she was following all the devotees into the desert. Her entire dhyana was in getting a glimpse of Sri Krishna’s idol.
Her soul was pulled to the Love of God since childhood. It was sparked by her Satguru, Saint Ravidas, who taught Meera the technique to have the vision of God.
Was Meera Married? Meera Bai Husband
Meera Bai’s husband was Bhoj Raj. Bhoj Raj was the eldest son of Rana Sanga, the ruler of Mewar. Mewar or Mewad is the south-central region of Rajasthan in India.
Why Did Meera Not Marry Krishna?
Meera Bai and Krishna lived in different times. Sri Krishna came into this world in the Dwapar Yuga (around 3,228 BCE). Meera came into this world in this Yug, Kal Yug (c. 1498).
As a child, Meera considered Sri Krishna her husband and was a great divine lover.
She soon realized that the people of the world would not accept her madness and love for the Lord. She got married to a man like any other girl would.
Her love for the Lord never diminished. It only increased with time. She meditated using the technique taught to her by her Satguru and realized her oneness with the Lord.
She died around 48-49 years of age though there is a difference in the opinions w.r.t the time of the death of Meera, according to different researchers.

Whose love was the most for Shri Krishna, Radha’s love or Meera’s love?
While Radha was Krishna’s lover during the time when Krishna was physically alive in a human body.
Meera was a devotee and divine lover of Krishna in a completely different timeline.
Radha means soul and Krishna means the Supreme Soul. Krishna and Radha were one soul split in two.
Meera spent hours, days, and nights and her entire life dedicated to Krishna’s remembrance & love which made her a legacy.
There is NO comparison between the two. There CANNOT be any comparison.

During the Kurukshetra war, Sri Krishna gave his most important teaching to Arjuna.
Sri Krishna said to Arjuna that he loves all of his devotees and divine lovers equally.
He taught that all souls are part of the Supreme Soul. It is we (individual souls) that pull our attention away from the Lord.
It is we who do not allow ourselves to be immersed in His love.
We are unable to experience the Lord because our Dhyana is not in the Lord.

How can I love Krishna as Meera did? How did Meera realize the vision of God?
Meera Bai was a Lover of God. When she was very young, she met her Spiritual Master, Saint Ravidas. Saint Ravidas explained to Meera that the Lord has many forms and many names.
He explained that the Lord cannot have any one name because he is formless but every person has a unique love for the Lord and saw God in his own way. Therefore, all people worshipped the Lord in the form in which they loved him the most.
Saint Ravidas used to worship Lord in the form of Lord Krishna. Meera’s heart was already connected to Lord Krishna since her childhood, so she followed suit.
During the course of her life, Meera Bai understood from her Spiritual Journey that the Lord could not be realized without learning the right technique from a Perfect Living Spiritual Master (Satguru).
Meera was blessed that she found her Satguru during her childhood. Saint Ravidas was also the Spiritual teacher of Meera’s parents. Meera, as a child, was very stubborn. She did not believe in things until she herself understood and realized them.
It was only when Saint Ravidas started giving spiritual teachings to Meera, that she slowly understood the real meaning of Satguru. Understand that ‘Sadhguru’ is different from a ‘Satguru’.
Her Guru was Saint Ravidas who was a Satguru. Saint Ravidas also explained to her about the Divine Sound, which she did not understand at that moment as she had not practiced the technique which was later taught by Saint Ravidas to Meera Bai.
After learning the right meditation technique from her Satguru, Meera Bai started meditating for hours and hours.
Practicing the technique given by her Perfect Spiritual Master, Meera Bai got the vision of the Lord Sri Krishna.
After many years of meditation and Divine Love for the Lord, she became one with the Lord.
We all know Meera’s love was so pure that today she is a legacy that we all remember.
The Need for Having a Satguru in the Words of Meera
Meera Bai has written a complete song on the importance of Satguru. You can also read the lines from her poem below-
‘Sat Ki Naav, Khevatiya Satguru
Bhav Sagar Tar AAyo’
TRANSLATED
The boat is made of Truth, The Satguru is the sailor.
The ocean of this world (the cycle of birth and death) is crossed in it.

There was a time when I wanted to experience God and there is this time today when I have achieved my goal. It took me 21 years to turn from an atheist to understanding the importance of a Master and then finding the Master.
But the faith only came after I started practicing the taught technique and seeing the results inside of me during the meditation. It took me many more years to practice and realize the Divine finally. I bow down to my Perfect Living Spiritual Master.

What happened to Meerabai after she died? Did Meera attain her beloved Krishna?
Meera had realized the Lord while she was living. And I personally believe that this is a real spiritual success. There are many IMPOSTER Spiritual teachers who guarantee us the vision of God after death.
But is it possible to catch hold of these imposters if we did not get any vision or any heaven after death?
The Lord has to be realized while we are alive. Remember when St.Paul said, ‘I die daily’ and when Maharaj Charan Singh Ji taught us about ‘Dying while living’.
Meera Bai’s Bani is present in one of the old versions of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji
All the Saints that come into this world give one message ‘God is One’. They never teach that there is One God of Muslims, One God of Hindus, and One God of Christians. They teach that there is Only One God who created this entire Universe.
This is what Guru Nanak Ji also taught. In the holy book of Sikhs, Guru Sahib mentioned many names of God. And he also compiled the names and works of numerous messengers and lovers of God that came into this world.
These divine lovers and messengers of God belonged to different religions and backgrounds but they all gave the same message. Guru Nanak Ji, through this holy book, wanted to convey that all the paths are leading to the same One Lord.
